First of all, "Stephen King's The Mist" is absolutely GREAT, a truly remarkable horror/sci-fi movie. I've read most of Stephen King's novels and seen a lot of adaptations of his work, but this is probably the best, the one which captures all what I like about his way of telling amazing stories.
At first, I decided to watch this film with the idea of simply having some fun. Given it was an adaptation of a Stephen King's novella, I was quite certain the story would be entertaining and the production good enough, but it was much more than that. I watch a lot of films and I think it's quite difficult to impress me, but this one really did.
The director, Frank Darabont (already an expert adapting King's work after The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption), had an incredible cast to work with, having Thomas Jane in the leading role but with a big number of good actors, like William Sadler, giving great performances which help giving live to an intense and some times even scary plot.
The special effects are good, at times even beautiful, the mist looks amazing and the creatures never look shabby, something not so easy to accomplish.
The story is pure Stephen King. Another normal day in the life of a typical american town until, suddenly, a thick mist covers the hole place. Some citizens are buying at the supermarket when the mist arrives and they'll soon discover something dangerous hides in it...
If you are a fan of King's work, or just like fantastic/horror films and/or science fiction, you must watch this movie.
