"Four Brothers" (movie review)

fourbrothersI like most of John Singleton's films. He is an extremely talented filmmaker who has a good number of really good films in his filmography, like "Boyz n the Hood", "Higher Learning", "Baby Boy" or "Rosewood". So, although he had made a couple of not so good films in the recent years, when his last film, "Four Brothers", was released, in 2005, I knew I had to watch it.

Bobby, Angel, Jeremiah and Jack Mercer, four adopted brothers, reunite when their mother is killed in an armed robbery. Police isn't making any progress in the investigation, so they start their own. They soon find there is something strange about their mother's death...

Far from the stories with racial themes that are common in Singleton's best films, "Four Brothers" is "simply" an action film with no special message but the not so easy goal to entertain the spectator, something Singleton already tried with "Shaft" and "2 Fast 2 Furious" but didn't quite managed to nail till this one.

This time he has created a pure old style action film, perfectly directed, with a really good soundtrack (which some times reminds me of some classic 60's and 70's movies) and a cast leaded by one of my favorite action film actors, Mark Wahlberg. The cast also includes Terrence Howard, André Benjamin and Fionnula Flanagan.

Not as good as Singleton's best movies, but quite good.
