"Stargate" (movie review)

stargateDr. Daniel Jackson is recruited as a researcher by the United States Air Force to decipher the hieroglyphics engraved in some ancient stones dug up in Egypt in 1928. It'll be the beginning of a journey that will take him and a group of soldiers, lead by Colonel O'Neil, to an unknown planet at the end of the known universe.

Stargate is one of my favorite science fiction movies of all times. I have the Director's Cut DVD and I never get bored of watching it. Directed by Roland Emmerich, and starred by James Spader (Jackson) and Kurt Russell (O'Neil), the movie is a classic adventure story, where the main characters have to explore a hole new world, full of strange places and people, to find a way home. The kind of story that makes your imagination fly.

Sceneries are beautiful, special effects are good, and the epic touch of Emmerich, which he'd fully show in Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow, is already there. And, of course, there's Kurt Russell, one of my favorite action and science fiction films actors, thanks specially, but not only, to John Carpenter's films (Big Trouble in Little China, Escape from New York...)

As I previously stated: a classic sci-fi adventure.
