"Primeval" (movie review)

primevalDespite the bad reviews I had read about this movie (it has an average rating of 2.5 over 10 on imdb.com) I decided to give it a try. I had the feeling that it wouldn't be so bad, and I only needed a film entertaining enough to watch on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

A giant crocodile has been killing a lot of people on a region of Burundi (Africa), and a group of journalist is sent there to capture it and film the story. Part of the region is controlled by a warlord nicknamed Little Gustave so, besides the risks of trying to catch the crocodile, they'll have to be careful not to run into Little Gustave's men.

The giant crocodile story wasn't original at all (Lake Placid), but the cast looked interesting, with Dominic Purcell, Orlando Jones and Jürgen Prochnow playing some of the leading characters.

The movie is not a master piece, it's unoriginal and simple, and you can find a lot of much better movies of the same genre. But it's entertaining, the special effects are well done, actors do fine, it has some funny moments and action scenes are good.

It was what I expected, an entertaining film. Nothing more, but nothing less.
